Huge Seminar Announcement:
Drew University * RESCHEDULED * for June 26th - 28th, 2009
Seminar: Jinichi Kawakami and Yasushi Kiyomoto
Present
Ninjutsu of the Koka Ryu & Iga Ryu
What really was/is Ninjutsu? Who were the Ninja - really? Were Shinobi (Ninja) spies & assassins; “Mystic Warriors”; “Special Operations” samurai; the common-man-hero-“Anti-Samurai”; even the first Japanese regional democracies? Did they even ever wear those famous black suits (Shinobi Shozoku)? Even more –was Ninjutsu Bujutsu (Martial Arts) at all, in the strict sense?
Sensational aspects aside, Ninja and Ninjutsu are valid parts of the history and culture of Japan. The sensational elements of the modern popularity of the Ninja have become a world-wide, lasting phenomenon. There are Ninjutsu Teachers who are recognized, as is their lineage, by the government of Iga (Mie) and Koka (Shiga) cities in Japan, along with the Iga Ninja Museum. They are coming to visit the United States, at Drew University, in Madison New Jersey, on June 26, 27, and 28.
Who they are may be surprising: Jinichi Kawakami and his student, Yasushi Kiyomoto, Chief Instructor (Shihan) of the Banke Shinobinoden Kensyujo. Kawakami Sensei is the 21st Soshike (Ban Ryu “Soke”, or “Headmaster of the Ban Family lineage”) Of Koka Ban-to Shinobi No Den. He has been named an honorary curator for the Iga-Ryu Ninja Hakubutsukan – the Iga Ninja Museum. Perhaps more surprising; Koga Ninjutsu isn’t “dead” – Seiko Fujita wasn’t the only 20th Century Koga Shihan, nor was Wada-Ha Koga Ryu the only Koga system to survive; The Ban family lineage is one of the 53 Koka Ninja families.
We wish to invite you to come learn about Ban Family Koka area lineage; attend an academic panel discussion about the history and nature of Japanese Ninjutsu, followed by 2 days of unique demonstrations and training.
Location: Drew University, Madison New Jersey, June 26, 27, and 28.
Fees
1 Day: $150.00 US 2 Days: $280.00 US 3 Days: $400.00

We are currently working our way through the emails. Please be patient, we will reply. Thank you.
Congratulations to Mr. Dayn DeRose for passing his Sakki-jutsu test under the guidance of Grandmaster Ronald Duncan. He is currently the first and only person to pass this test within the Koga Ryu Ninjutsu Society.
We would like to welcome Sensei Frank Fuller to the KRNS. He brings with him over 22 years of martial arts experience from various disciplines. We are honored to have him as a member.
The KRNS has recently been purchased by another larger martial arts organization. Expect changes to the administration and running of the website. We shall keep you posted. Expect delays in email response time during this transition, thank you.
The KRNS is please to announce many recent changes within the website and overall approach. Please look around and let us know what you think. As of 02/06/07 the KRNS will no longer list KRNS members' rank in the "KRNS Members" area of our website, unless they have achieved the rank directly through us. Those members who do not hold rank in Koga Ryu Ninjutsu (through the KRNS) will just be listed by their names and websites(if applicable). For those who hold rank in other styles of Ninjutsu and Koga derivatives (not from the KRNS) you can have the oppertunity to have all your information (including rank) listed in the Ninja Alliance (this is NEW) section of our website. Please visit that section for further information.
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Sensei Derek Fuller. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
Please be aware the KRNS is now accepting candidates, who qualify, for the Sakkijutsu Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) test. This test grants full Master instructorship of the KRNS style. Tests will be administered by Master Ronald Duncan. Possible candidates include: Those who hold YonDan (4th Degree Black Belt) through the KRNS.
The KRNS Store is up and running. Here members can purchase membership packages (includes: certificate, badge, and card), pay testing fees, pay for homologation, etc.
We would like to call to your attention that the KRNS has a new membership certificate. Rather than the previous 2 certificates for membership, the society has shifted to 1 certificate. Old membership certificates shall be honored, but will no longer be issued. A picture (dulled down for copyright protection) of the new certificate is available in our KRNS store area.
Please be aware: The Koga Ryu Ninjutsu Society does not, nor has it ever had, a myspace account. There exists a group that is going around making claims to be the KRNS. Please be aware that these are scam artists and are in no way connected to us. The only connection the KRNS has with the outside is through this website and our instructors. Please let us know if you have been contacted by this group.
We would also like to call your attention to the FAQ section of our website. Please let us know your comments.
We would like to call you attention to our new Research Resource Area. This area shall be an excellent guide for all Koga Ryu Ninjutsu Society members as it provides links to actual historic texts and other legitimate training aids. Remember we must have a base in history. This is an excellent place to start. Please send us any feedback, positive or negative, you have regarding the Research Resource Area.
If you would like some news listed, please feel free to email the Koga Ryu Ninjutsu Society to get it listed. kogasociety@hotmail.com
